From the Dean
Dear Colleagues, Members and Friends,
Welcome to the East Carolina Chapter of the American Guild of Organists! We are a diverse group encompassing a wide geographic area that includes Rocky Mount and Wilson to the west and Bath and the coastal North Carolina. We include city, small town and rural areas, and a range of backgrounds. Organs in our area include Aeolian-Skinner, Austin, Casavant, Fisk, Goulding and Wood, Harrison and Harrison, Lewtak, Richards-Fowkes, Möller, Schantz and others.
East Carolina describes our region, but we have always enjoyed a close association with East Carolina University. Many of our educational events and concerts are presented in coordination with the Organ Department of ECU. The Music Library at ECU houses our chapter archives. Currently we have a faculty advisor and student representative on the board, currently Andrew Scanlon and Krista Melcher respectively.
We are committed to moving around and holding events in different areas of the region. This year’s event venues include Wilson, New Bern, Goldsboro, Washington (NC), Tarboro as well as Greenville. We strive for a balance between educational and concert and fun events. Our Spooktacular Organ Concert is very well attended and children are introduced to the pipe organ in a fun and exciting way.
We are a diverse and inclusive organization. We are an active chapter. We hope you will explore our website and that you will join our chapter or another chapter. Most of all, we hope to you and see you at chapter events. Let us know how we can be a resource or service to you, your church or organization.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Official Board Meeting
